It is the
school's policy to enter Year 11 pupils for public examinations providing
they fulfil the requirements of attendance, coursework and, where
appropriate, pass the trial examination in January of Y11. Normally all
pupils enter public examinations in each of the following subjects provided
they have reached the required level academically: English, Mathematics, Science, and a full range of option subjects. The parents of pupils who fail to turn up for examinations without a doctor’s note will be expected to pay the costs that the school has incurred for entering this pupil for the examination.
Sixth Form
Students are carefully placed on to courses after extensive information, advice and guidance from the senior leadership of the school as well as departmental staff. Average point scores from Key Stage 4 are used to refine student choices along with the future aspirations of the students themselves.
Level 3 students undertake 3-4 subjects in Year 12, often combining A Level and BTEC study. Level 2 students must opt to study two courses but may take a combination of Level 2 and 3 courses where appropriate. A’ Level courses can be cashed in as an AS level, after one year so that a student can attain certification for that year’s study this equates to half an A’ level. BTEC courses require the completion of all units prior to the award being made by the certifying body.
Every Child Matters
All students receive a package of support across the year in order to support their personal development. This includes basic First Aid Training, Careers and Enterprise days. This is also supported by tutorial sessions focussed around current affairs. All Level 3 students are subsequently entered for a General Studies examination at the end of year 12 and may then go on the complete the A2 course in Year 13.
